These three students are undeniably some of FSU’s best dressed - here’s what they have to say about putting together their ever-dynamic ensembles.
Anita Loughlin, sophomore fashion merchandising major
What is your favorite piece in your closet right now?
“OK, this is like my signature jacket. I wear this jacket everywhere every day. I repeat this jacket.”
How would you describe your style?
“I think I tend to dress however I'm feeling that day. I don't know - lately, since it's been winter, I've been dressing in very dark colors. But now it's starting to get warmer outside. I want to start dressing in lighter shades - happy colors, I guess, ya know, stuff like that.”
Where do you usually shop?
“Definitely Depop and through secondhand websites. I do a lot of thrifting and also hand-me-downs.”
Best piece of style advice?
“I would say dress like the person that you always see yourself becoming.”
Aili Schiavoni, sophomore fashion design major
Where do you usually shop?
“I've been most successful shopping online, because there are very specific brands for this sort of aesthetic. But they could come from anywhere. One of the shirts that I wear a lot is from actually one of the pop-up shops here on campus.”
“Retro Fairy and Lacemade”
How would you describe your style?
“I was really into Lolita fashion and Harajuku fashion back in middle school and early high school, and I definitely draw a lot of style inspiration from there.”
Best piece of style advice?
“Authenticity is the most important part of an outfit because when you're genuinely truly satisfied with what you're wearing, and you're confident in what you're wearing, it brings anything to life.”
What is your favorite piece in your closet right now?
“This skirt, and it is very recent. I got it a couple of weeks ago when I went to Anime Boston. And it was definitely a pretty penny. It was from this smaller brand that had a table there and the wife made everything. These petticoats are absolutely gorgeous. The one I got is a petticoat, or it could just be worn as a regular skirt. Fantastic craftsmanship.”
Emily Crossin, sophomore fashion merchandising major
How would you describe your style?
“Very whimsical and fun.”
What is your biggest style inspiration?
“Growing up watching early 2000s movies like ‘Ella Enchanted’ and stuff like that. Stuff that is super nostalgic for me like the clothes I wanted to wear when I was a kid I wear now.”
What is your favorite piece in your closet right now?
“Oh, it's this vintage Banana Republic leather jacket. I just got it from DC Consignments on Route 9.”
Where do you usually shop?
“I do most of my shopping at thrift stores and I do a lot of online shopping too.”
